My balcony is about the size of a bath towel. I’ve decided this is enough space for a garden. Starting with mint, one tomato plant, and a hopeful watering can. I’ll come back with news.

The mint is thriving. The tomato is negotiating. A neighbour saw me watering and brought over a cutting from a plant she’s had for twelve years. The garden is already making the balcony feel bigger.

First mint tea from the balcony. One mug, four leaves. The tomato is still deciding what it wants from life. I’m calling the experiment a success anyway: I spend a few quiet minutes outside every morning now.
